You don't have to fish to appreciate the Kitty Hawk Fishing Pier. For starters, it's an Insider's best kept breakfast secret. Nothing beats the ocean view, the omelets or the pitch and roll of the dining room when the surf's up. Next, pay the $2 to walk out to the end of the pier for an eye-opening experience. Peopled with anglers, this structure has endured many powerful storms, and many citation fish have been caught off its weathered railings. Kitty Hawk Fishing Pier is open April through Thanksgiving. Parking is ample, and daily admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children. A weekly pass is $25, and season passes are $125. Handicapped persons are admitted free.

Built in 1932, Jennette's is the oldest pier on the Outer Banks, and friends have been gathering here since the last plank was put in place. This pier is usually crawling with anglers. (We're told that the activity here has not put a damper on the fish being caught.) It's in the heart of Whalebone Junction along a hotbed of big catches and tall stories. Rest assured, the pier, busy almost anytime, will be even more so in late spring and summer. The pier opens April 1 and closes November 30. Hours do vary, but the schedule is 6 AM 'til 6 PM April 1 through Memorial Day. The pier is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Snacks are available. Jennette's retail store features items to round out all your fishing and beach needs.

You can purchase or rent all your fishing supplies here, buy sandwiches and drinks, and also pick up nautical gifts including T-shirts and sand mirrors. Operating hours are 6 AM to 10 PM. After Memorial Day the pier remains open 24 hours a day until it closes for the season. Adults pay $5 to fish all day, and kid's all-day passes are $4.
